Quiet Light Announces Limited CD Run for 2023 LP ‘Blue Angel Sparkling Silver’ via Orange Label Records

SET TO OPEN FOR NILÜFER YANYA AT LEVITATION FESTIVAL NOVEMBER 3

The FADER

Blue Angel [is a] sound collage in the tradition of Dean Blunt’s World Music, or perhaps a Joni Mitchell record produced by Klein. [The album] has a hypnagogic, anything-goes mandate, off-mic voice memos sharing space with gauzy aurora borealis vocal melodies that shimmer whether raw or processed with Auto-Tune.”

The Austin Chronicle

“Breathy and tender, Mahesh’s vocals echo through heart-on-sleeve confessionals and swell in a layered refrain.”

August 1, 2024—Rising ambient-folk artist Quiet Light—the solo recording project of Austin raised Riya Mahesh—today releases a limited run of CDs for her 2023 LP Blue Angel Sparkling Silver via Orange Label Records—purchase/download here.

Additionally, Mahesh has confirmed she will open for Nilüfer Yanya at Levitation Festival in Austin on November 3—tickets are available here.

Initially the main artist project of Mahesh, Blue Angel Sparkling Silver was the last full-length LP recorded and self-released on Bandcamp under the eponymous artist name before Mahesh decided to fold it under the Quiet Light banner. The FADER praises, “Blue Angel [is a] sound collage in the tradition of Dean Blunt’s World Music, or perhaps a Joni Mitchell record produced by Klein. [The album] has a hypnagogic, anything-goes mandate, off-mic voice memos sharing space with gauzy aurora borealis vocal melodies that shimmer whether raw or processed with Auto-Tune.”

The CD’s extended track list includes an alternate version of “Somerville” featuring a monologue from Iggy Pop, who played the track on air on his show Iggy Confessional on BBC Radio 6.

50 CDs are available now, handmade and distributed by Orange Label Records founder and artist Chris Emond.

ABOUT QUIET LIGHT

Raised in Austin’s band scene before relocating to Boston for medical school, Riya Mahesh is normal—an identity she wears proudly. Drawing her artist name from an eponymous track off of The National’s 2019 album ‘I Am Easy to Find’, the project Quiet Light houses songs that Riya says, “make you feel like you’re floating, music that feels like soft light.” Currently, Riya continues to pursue a medical degree at UMass; her moonlighting as a musician has seen support from Spotify’s Fresh Finds Experimental playlist, opening slots on tour with Superfan, for Hovvdy at their Austin album release show, and Luna Li, and continues to open doors unknown.
