Rising Austin ambient-folk artist Quiet Light confirms highly anticipated new EP ‘Contact’ set for release May 3

“Breathy and tender, Mahesh’s vocals echo through heart-on-sleeve confessionals and swell in a layered refrain.” - The Austin Chronicle

“In a style reminiscent of early Waxahatchee, she is clear and open about her pain – and her lack of ability to get over it.” - Beats Per Minute

April 26, 2024—Rising Austin ambient-folk artist Quiet Light has confirmed the release of her forthcoming highly anticipated EP Contact on May 3—presave/preorder here.

Composed of 4 new tracks that present the rising front-woman’s signature confessional songwriting and intimate sound collages with a bow, Contact was created as a deeper foray into experimental folk-pop for 23-year old Riya Mahesh.

Recent highlights in connection with the rollout: Quiet Light will open Hovvdy’s album release show tonight, Iggy Pop played “Somerville“ on BBC Radio 6 last week, and singles have seen support from Captured Tracks, Ones to Watch, and Spotify’s Fresh Finds Experimental playlist.

Raised in Austin’s band scene before relocating to Boston for medical school, Riya is normal—an identity she wears proudly. Drawing her artist name from an eponymous track off of The National’s 2019 album ‘I Am Easy to Find’, the project Quiet Light houses songs that Riya says, “make you feel like you’re floating, music that feels like soft light.” Initially developing indie notoriety for her Bandcamp ambient release ‘Blue Angel Sparkling Silver’, Riya is now making a name for herself with more vocal-forward, “interesting pop songs”. Currently, Riya continues to pursue a medical degree at UMass; her moonlighting as a musician has seen her open for Luna Li in New York and continues to open doors unknown.
